The books of the Sacred Volume of our Faith, as they werearranged by the Editorial Committee appointed by the Great Sanhedrim, calledat Jerusalem for the purpose, in the Third Century before Christ, weredivided into Four Volumes, and put into the succession that this translator,Ferrar Fenton, has followed [Old Testament].
He used this order for the following reasons: It was theoriginal one, and the accurate criticism, mental insight, and literaryskill shown in it, and its grouping of both the Historical and the DivinelyInspired Writers, show a masterly comprehension of the work the Editorshad before them, and the progressive nature of the Revelation from Godto Man of the Everlasting Laws of Creation, Human Life, and Social andNational health and duty, that has never been equalled, and which is itself,if studied, a commentary that cannot be excelled.
He first made, by his own hand and mental effort, thetranslation direct from the original, with no intermediary version betweenthe Greek or Oriental Texts and his manuscript. He revised passages threeto five times and submitted difficult ones to a few Orientalist and Grecianistfriends. He tested their suggestions by various previous translators. Thenhe collated his version with a Polyglot Bible. He was dismayed to find,in doing the latter, that translators to the various languages had repeatederrors made by the Greek translators of the Hebrew or Chaldee text. Hefound the same with the Latin version of the Greek New Testament.
For many years he read the Old Testament in Hebrew andChaldee and the New Testament in Greek, so as to arrive at their meaningfrom ancient writers themselves alone. He also had before him no theologicalor historic theories to assail or to support.

By Periods GOD created that which produced the SolarSystems; then that which produced the Earth. But the Earth was unorganisedand empty; and darkness covered its convulsed surface; while the breathof GOD rocked the surface of its waters.
The WORD existed in the beginning, and the WORD was withGod, and the WORD was God. He was present with God at the beginning. Allcame into existence by means of Him; and nothing came into existence apartfrom Him. |
