This version was written by Andy Edington, President Emeritusof Schreiner Junior College and High School, in Texas. Through his workwith young people at school, with inmates of a state prison, and with churchgroups, the author has tried to create an interest in reading the Bibleamong the uninterested.

It is neither a commentary nor a new translation, noris it a substitute for reading one of the excellent modern translations. This paraphrase is not the work of a professionally trained Biblical scholar, even though Dr. Edington spent countless hours of devoted study and richexperience in preparing it.

He recognized how stale we can make the Bible seem whenwe read it with dull and imaginative hearts. He accepted a challenge fromfriends to create this work. In this version he has used familiar placesand personal names, but footnotes them. It is also full of humor and wisdom.

I had the privilege of speaking with one of Dr. Edington'scolleagues about his work and this version. I learned how successful hehas been in teaching and lecturing people of all ages about the Bible.
