The translator, Andy Gaus, has tried to reproduce the simplicity and humanityof the Greek into English. His aim throughout has been to re-create the original readers'experience rather than to re-create the original authors' words. He has felt that the word isless important than the sentence, and that the sentence is less important than the paragraph. Hehas attached much importance to word order, since Greek word order is very free and representsa conscious choice of what to emphasize. He has often changed the grammatical construction butkept the principal sentence elements in the original order.

The edition features clear type, clean single-column pages and a minimum offootnotes. Verse numbers are useful for reference, but they make all normal reading impossible,so they have been dropped. Also, such features as maps, charts, cross-references, and tables ofweights and measures have been omitted to make an edition that purposely travels light. However,at the back is a glossary.
